Frequently Asked Questions:

Aren't you too young and politically inexperienced to be running for the California State Assembly?

Absolutely not. Many people believe that you must either be a lawyer or you have to work your way up through local government to enter state level politics. Our founding fathers envisioned representation by common citizens. Being a hard-working middle-class citizen, my everyday experiences more closely resemble those of the vast majority of the people than do those of other candidates. While they may say they understand, other candidates cannot grasp what it is like to worry about holding onto their day job and having to get that next paycheck in order to make ends meet. And unlike professional politicians, I look at the world as someone who is still fighting to be heard by government.

We can survey the current political landscape to see examples of people who started their political careers early in life. Prior to Barack Obama being first elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1996, he had never held any public office whatsoever. At the time of his election, he was 35. Joe Biden was elected to the United States Senate at the age of 29, and he was 30 when he actually took office. At the time of the 2010 election, I will be 32 years old.

What is your ethnic background?

Both of my parents immigrated to the United States in the 1960's and went through the official process of becoming citizens. My mother is from the Philippines. My father, who passed away in 2007, was from Pakistan.

What is the story behind your shaved head?

Back during the summer of 1997, I woke up one day and decided that I wanted to shave my head. I liked the way that it looked, so I have kept my head shaved ever since. And, yes, I do shave my head each and every day.
